Kia ora Whānau,

We are putting together our own visual/written mihi (maori greeting/welcome) This fits in perfectly and supports our learning this term Turangawaewae – our place to stand & who we identify as. Included in the template we are using in our class is your child’s name, parents names, place of birth, where you live now & school. Other details are maunga (mountain) awa (river) these places do not necessarily need to be Mt Robert, but can be instead a Mountain that is significant or important to you or your family. For example my mountain is Mauao (Mt Maunganui) and my awa (river) is Wairoa River, both up in Tauranga, the North Island.  As extras in our mihi are Waka (canoe) iwi (tribe) and marae, and should you chose to include these details please do! ! Just send the details along to school in your child’s notebook or send me an email, so I get the spelling etc correct. Thank you for your support. Liz
